August 17, 2009 - Update to Plan

While packing out from Little Bear on August 13, I called my brother, Randy, at work. I reminded him that I had a reservation in the Boulderfield for a 2-person tent for the night of August 18, with a planned summit attempt of Longs Peak on August 19. I proposed that he fly out Monday night after work, pack in to the Boulderfield on Tuesday, climb Longs Peak on Wednesday, then pack out and fly home on Wednesday night.

The seed had been planted. Less than four hours later, thanks to a ticket courtesy of my sister, Lisa, the seed had sprouted and plans were in place for Randy to join me in my climb of Longs Peak. If the weather cooperated and let me climb North Maroon in the days preceding Longs Peak, then Longs would be my 14er finisher, the 55th fourteener I would have climbed, based on Gerry Roach's list of fourteeners.

Jun 22, 2009 - Planning for Climb on Aug 19, 2009

I have a backcountry tent site reserved for August 18, 2009, at the Boulderfield in Rocky Mountain National Park.

My plan is to pack in on Tuesday, August 18, and climb Longs Peak on Wednesday, August 19. I will then break camp after the climb on Wednesday and hike out the 6 miles to the trailhead.
